PSY is one of the most well-known K-Pop acts in the world, so K-pop fans have been wondering why he didn’t make an appearance at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
PSY became a worldwide star thanks to his megahit “Gangnam Style” in 2012.
Song Seung Hwan, the Director of the closing ceremony for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, shared that PSY purposefully declined the offer because of his past performances.
“I met with PSY. We proposed that he perform, but he declined. It may be because he received so much criticism for his performance at the Asian Games.” — Song Seung Hwan
To jog your memory, PSY was the opening performer for the 2014 Asian Games, held in Incheon.
But he received criticism from netizens who felt that his songs didn’t fit the international event.
“It’s tough being a celebrity. If you make an appearance at an event, you receive criticism. If you don’t make an appearance at an event, you receive criticism.” — Song Seung Hwan
Song Seung Hwan also revealed that they were considering BTS as one of the performers but conflicting schedules got in the way.
“We tried to have more K-Pop stars to perform but it didn’t work about because of issues with scheduling and more. PSY and BTS were among those we asked.” — Song Seung Hwan
Nevertheless, EXO, CL and Honey Lee truly made the closing ceremonies memorable!
