In a recent live broadcast on YouTube, BTS‘s Jimin shared his experience transitioning from the role of idol to the role of project manager for the group’s upcoming album, BE.
To create BE, every member of BTS took on a different role in the album’s production. Jin, for example, was the album’s wardrobe manager, while V acted as the visual director. As for Jimin, the group’s main dancer took on the role of music project manager for the BE. Project manager is undoubtedly a key position in the production of any album, but according to Jimin, it wasn’t all that difficult.
Recently, there’s been a lot of interviews where I was to talk about what I did as the album project manager. Actually, what I did was not a lot working on this album.
Primarily, Jimin explained that his role was to play “intermediary” between the members as the label. For example, he would ask the members what themes, styles, and song compositions they were interested in. Since each member had their own area of expertise for the album, it’s likely they all had plenty of input to give.
After asking everyone for their opinions, Jimin says it was then his job to organize them and present them to Big Hit Entertainment. Next, the label would provide their own feedback, which Jimin then shared with the rest of the members. The rest of the process was a similar back-and-forth, which Jimin making everything from music to design met the members’ and agency’s approval.
There’s not much that I did. Just organizing what everyone did, that’s it. The other PMs really did work hard. Me… I had the easiest job, maybe.
Jimin may have downplayed his role during the live broadcast, but fans are impressed at his skills nonetheless. After all, without project manager Jimin, the album would never have come together as a cohesive whole. Either way, despite his modesty, Jimin says he had a lot of fun working on BE with the other members.
Coming together like this and talking about the themes… “I made it like this, what do you think?”. This all made it fun… Of course, some things made it in and lots of other things didn’t make it, but getting praise from the members was a good feeling. Trying various different things was fun.
